I watched the Rugrats too. I also loved, loved Lambchop! How could I forget about her! Shining Time Station, which is what Thomas was taken from, was one we watched too. I also liked Are you Afraid of the Dark?

Post 9 by Heavy Metal Girl 85 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Thursday, 23-Oct-2008 19:38:39

Hmmm lets see so many good shows back in the day I use to watch. I watched rugrats, doug, are you afraid of the dark, catdog, shining town station, the kid shows on PBS, some stuff on the disney channel,Ren and Stimpy,The Flintstones, jetsons and Scooby Doo. I'm sure I've probably forgot to mention some, but some of the shows that are mentioned on here I use to watch.

Post 10 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Thursday, 23-Oct-2008 19:45:17

i watched thundercats, centurians, transfromers, and a little known thing called the raccoons, which had the most amazing theme tune going!

Post 11 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Thursday, 23-Oct-2008 23:34:05

I was all about Nickelodeon as a kid, my faves were Rugrats, Doug, Hey Arnold!, All That (only the first few seasons before it began sucking) and oh God, so many more. Is it just me, or has the quality of kids TV really declined since we were little? Seriously, Spongebob? Completely pointless, at least the old NickToons had decent plots and characters that actually made sense. And don't even get me started about the crap on the Disney Channel now. I sort of feel bad for kids today. Fortunately most of the shows on PBS are still pretty watchable. I must admit, I do occasionally tune into Arthur or Sesame Street if I'm up early enough to catch them.

Post 12 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 24-Oct-2008 1:23:34

yes, Krisme, at the risk of sounding like a Grandma, I do think kids TV has seriously declined since a lot of us were little. I watched a ton of Nickelodeon stuff, too. Today's Special, the Koalas, David the Gnome, Pinwheel. I also watched a lot of PBS shows: Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow, Electric Company, the PolkaDot Door, and Wishbone. I don't think Wishbone was on till I was slightly older, but I liked it anyway. Oh, and Hey arnold was good, too. I usually wasn't much for saturday morning cartoons, with the exceptions of Alvin and The Chipmunks, SheRah, and a show called Jen and the Holograms. I liked that one cuz it had music.

Post 13 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 24-Oct-2008 7:52:45

heheeh jem was so crap. well yes kids tv is so shit now.

Post 14 by Musical Ambition (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Friday, 24-Oct-2008 10:30:35

I agree. My sister and I are always reminiscing on old shows we used to watch, and how they just aren't the same anymore. They should bring back the old shows. They were great.

David the Gnome was another one we watched. That was a cute show. I also liked All That, but like Krisme said, it started to suck really bad after a few years.

Did you guys watch Captain Kangaroo? We used to watch that one too.

Post 15 by TheAsianInvasion (The Zone's invader) on Saturday, 25-Oct-2008 6:13:21

ah, I remember are you afraid of the dark. cat dog was awsome! ren and stimpy I never got into.

I remember Captain Kangaroo and a local show called Boomarang.

I was a big fan of Mr. Rogers; loved that show!

Sesame Street. Some of where in the world is Carman San diago. I use to really like a cartoon, I think it was called the blazers or something.

I liked little house, full house, growing pains, family ties, hunter, the Hogans (I think), and...

It seemed like Nickelodeon was just beginning when I was a kid, but I kind remember this show, where they always had a opposites segment. I don't remember the name of the show though. Oh and I liked double dare...lol!

Post 28 by DHS Darcy (Zone BBS Addict) on Tuesday, 18-Nov-2008 3:31:49

To post 18, the show you were thinking of with the opposite sketches was "You can't do that on television." This was one of my favorites growing up.

Post 29 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 18-Nov-2008 4:24:17

Mmmmmmm! Ok didn't watch much tv but here goes:
Rugrats, mmmmmmmm! Had to love it!
Doug too!
Hey Arnold, cant leave it out!
And well, I cant think of anymore cartoons.
I guess you could say I didn't grow up very normally. i only watched those when I was about 8, on up. Oh, also Gulla Gulla Island.
Ok, so what did I watch at night then?
6:30 pm. Wheel, of, fortune! Of course, this was when I was about 7 or even before...
7 pm. Unsolved Mysteries, of course!
And of course, this was indeed if I got the tv at all because most of the time my grandma watched novelas, so I kind of grew up watching them too!
I also sometimes watched Young and the Restless, and all that....The Price is Right, Jeperdy, Opra, and Morrie, and Christina! And Saturdays were never the same unless I saw Sabado Gigante!
Ok, maybe I did watch a litttle more than I thought! Lol!

Post 30 by Rune Knight (Ancient Demon - Darkness will always conquer Light!) on Tuesday, 18-Nov-2008 4:31:23

I use to watch Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Doug, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Captain Planet, Batman, Transformers (still do as matter a fact) and some other shows that seemed to have escaped my memory.

man! Miss those as well. It pissed me off when Magic School Bus went to FOX because they had commercials during the shows. Another show I sort of miss, it wasn't as good as Lam Chops Play Along but it was good, was Charley Horse Music Pizza, and Wimzey's House on PVS. Well bye for now.

Post 34 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Tuesday, 18-Nov-2008 12:53:39

In our local market I want to think it came on at about 2PM, right after Top Cop at 1 & Murphy Brown at 1:30. They were heading into their kids block, but those were the two shows that procedded it), Beatlejuice!, Denis The Menace, Bobby's World, Tiny Toons, Pinky & The Brain, Looney Tunes, Captain Planet, & I think that's it! Lol.

Others included Bravestar, The Dinosaucers, Ninja Turtles (the 80's version), Captain N: The Game Master, Inspector Gadget, David the Gnome, Mr. Wizard's World, and, my absolute favorite Nickelodian show, You Can't do that on Television. i think i'm going to cry!!!! you guys are talking about the so called old shows which were around when I was a parent. Waaaaaa!!!!! I loved the old sesame street before cookie sold out to the earthy crunchy crowd. Oscar was and still is one of my mentors. To this day at times of boredom I hear placido flamingo in my head. I also love reading rainbow. My kids love love loved barnie. I had to have insulin nearby while watching it but it was a good show for what it was. My two favorite kids shows were wishbone and arthur. Don't tell but sometimes I still watch my favorite aardvark when no one else is around.

More currently, I watch Lilo & Stitch the Series, (maybe not quite as good as the movies, but still pretty good), and the Wild Thornberrys.

Wren and Stimpey, the rug rats, Doug, etc.
I also always liked the Simsons...still do.
Now a days, I don't watch that much t v actually.

Thundercats rules! Snarf is one of the coolest tv characters I've ever seen, lol he cracks me up.

Post 81 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Saturday, 08-May-2010 22:29:38

yes, thundercats, smile... especially that blind one, i forget who he was, but, yeah. now that was cool!

Post 82 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Sunday, 09-May-2010 5:55:06

the blind thudnercat was one of the periferal characters i think, and was a new adition in the later episodes i think. hmm, i don't remember his name now, though i remember reading about him. yah and snarf was so funny, though he'd often get his paws burnt by the bad guys if i remember right. he also had trouble realising lion-o had grown up, which i think was kind of sweet, if very funny at times too. off to find out the name of that blind character in thundercats.
info from from:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ThunderCats_characters

Lynx-o
Lynx-O (voice by Doug Preis) — The oldest of the trio, based on the lynx, Lynx-O was spared the sight of the destruction of their homeworld by a cruel twist of fate: a blast of intense heat and fire blinded him moments before he and his two younger companions were rescued, leaving his eyes red, denoting blindness. Because of this injury, Lynx-O has had to adapt to survive on Third Earth, and has done so by honing his other senses to superhuman levels. His sense of touch, smell, taste and hearing are far above those of the other ThunderCats, and this affords him a type of "sixth sense," though it is not like the one Cheetara possesses. Though blind, Lynx-O is still a formidable fighter. His sense of touch allows him to find pressure points on a foe’s body to knock them off balance or stun them. He can also feel vibrations, which allow him to evade attacks and capture, and can use a Sonic Reflector as a weapon in combat. His greatest skill comes in utilizing a special "braille board" — a device that allows him to translate information coming from sensor systems inside the Tower of Omens, enabling him to see into the gloom of Dark Side. This same device also allows him to pilot the Thunderstrike aircraft through the Valley of Mists when the ThunderCats need to find a way through to Dark Side.

Post 85 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Sunday, 09-May-2010 18:25:04

yes well snarfer was younger than snarf, and was a bit headstrong wasn't he. i think he managed to annoy his uncle snarf a bit. *smile*

Post 86 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Sunday, 09-May-2010 18:25:54

and yes you can't beat the snarfs for cuteness, indeed, i remember a plush one being sold in the mid to late eighties, now i believe they are selling on ebay for a packet.

Post 87 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Sunday, 09-May-2010 22:31:28

awwww! so, from what i remember they're part cat/lizard type things, at least that's what they looked like to me...

cue the evil mummy dude who needed to die painfully.

Post 88 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Monday, 10-May-2010 11:27:43

snarf wasn't a lizard at all, i had a really good description of him done by someone on a board. go here. www.http://www.80scartoons.co.uk/

i can't find the description at the moment, but he was like a big cat really with human like fore and hind paws and pointed ears, pinky nose too, along with his hands and feet which were pink too. slightly red eyes? hmm, yellow inner ears, pink belly, pink underside to tail and red fur on upper body, but with yellow stripe going down back? jog memories? very cute, i always wanted to give him a hug, for i always felt sorry for him.

Post 89 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Monday, 10-May-2010 13:19:12

Snarf's hands and feet were naked too, his red fur ending at the ankles and wrists, if that makes any sense.

Post 90 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Monday, 10-May-2010 13:23:50

and snarf had white whiskers, quite a fiew of them if i remember too.

I'm afraid I differ with the poster who sees Sponge Bob as pointless. This is the only t v show I love to watch with my daughter. I love the way it parodies just about everything and everyone, from the fast food industry, to human institutions like the Prom and petting zoos, to artist wannabe's. I love the Squidward character, even though he's such a wannabe. I can relate to him on a level, like after 8 hours at work I just want to chill out and be by myself or with family. I cannot understand social butterflies like my husband, which is kind of how Sponge Bob is with his best friend Patrick. I actually have favorite episodes, like the one where Squidward wound up a homeless bum and camped out at Sponge Bob's house after quitting his job, and the one where Patrick became "Patricia" to hide out from someone he felt was trying to chase him out of town. We get many a laugh out of this show!

I remember the VR Troopers. I could never quite get into that. And while the original Power Rangers and the ones featuring Lord Zedd could be quite funny, my absolute favorites were Power Rangers in Space and Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, the former more than the latter. Not only did Astronema have one hell of a hot, sexy voice, that was one woman I definitely wouldn't want to have gotten on the bad side of. Trakeena was pretty cool too. Dark Specter and Scorpius were pretty cool but Dark Specter always sort of got on my nerves.

Post 107 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 31-Jul-2010 22:57:31

Oh., and then there were those Super Mario Brothers and Legend of Zelda cartoons. They were funny when I was young but now that I look back on them Marion and Luigi were more concerned with eating pasta and whatnot than saving the Mushroom Kingdom. Oh they'd thrash Koopa right enough but they always had their minds on food. And in Zelda, Link was rather whiny and annoying and Zelda was just bossy as hell. My favorite though would have to be Captain N: The Game Master. There were some fun times...

Post 112 by Godzilla-On-Toast (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 09-Aug-2010 23:52:36

I was a little old to watch much kids' TV in the Eighties. I'm going to show my age when I say that when I was little the area I lived in had only three channels and one of them was PBS, so we didn't even have three dedicated network channels, the two had to share. So when I started watching TV at probably four or five years old, Sesame Street was just starting as well as Mister Rogers and the Electric Company later on. The Jetsons, Bullwinkle, and Underdog were aired but were in reruns at that point. Fat Albert, Scooby-doo and all its many clones, the Archys, the Groovy Goolies, and other shows were brand new. Let's not forget the animated Star Trek and I saw the real Star Trek in reruns. Six Million Dollar Man, and there was Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers when I was on the younger side of my teens. WE got cable and I was able to see more reruns like Lost in Space, Gilligan's Island and the original 1966 Batman. I miss that one and wish Warner's and Fox would work something out where they could be released on DVD.

All right boys and girls, let's go bakc to the dark ages, when everything was in black and white. I watched Howdy Doody, Pinky Lee, Fury, Paul Winchell & Jerry Mahoney, Kukla, Fran & Ollie, Captain Kangaroo, Lassie, Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, The Mickey Mouse Club, The Three Stooges, and anything that had cartoons and/or puppets. I think the cartoons were better then in spite of the "violence'" It didn't affect me. All those years of watching Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry, and I have never dropped an anvil on anyone.
When my kids were kids, we (the whole family) watched Sesame Street, Mister Rogers, 3-2-1 Contact, and Lassie.
Today, I don't watch cartoons, unless I'm on vacation in a hotel. Then, I like to watch SpongeBob and Jimmy Neutron.

I used to really like PBS, so I watched most of the stuff on there. Also a bit of Nicolodian stuff, (this was already when Nicolodian went haywire) but I mostly watched TV for the comercials, to find out what stuff was new and how comercials were made. I used to love the magic school bus when I was little

Post 130 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Monday, 21-Feb-2011 21:35:46

Commercials were better when I was a kid. Networks didn't feel the need to clutter themselves with adds for stuff, so there was actually more time for actual television. Companies had about thirty seconds or so in which to advertise their product, so they were more creative. Hence all the old jingles and skits that used to get stuck in your head for hours or days on end. Nowadays commercials just suck. Then again so does TV in general for the most part.

Post 131 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 22-Feb-2011 6:35:55

agree with you brian. these days tv is really awfull. what ever happened to all the good shows?. as for comercials, most of them these days are just anoying- i hate the comercial for space bags and also the ones that try and spend at least 5 or so minits of your time trying to sell you stuff

I think that boy meets world should now be considered as one of the oldies shows that's going to be a classic of its time. I've seen few shows as funny or as educational as Boy Meets World. Though one good thing that can be said about most of the oldies or almost oldies is that they had a healthy balance of education and commedy in them. If we were to watch most of the shows that are currently being shown now however, we'd see that they care more about special affects than actually conveying something decent to the audience that watches them. Hense the current decline of the current generation of smart-phone iPod-carrying children!
Aa well, at least we have Dexter for now! That's the only modern-day show I willingly keep up with.

They need to release You Can't on DVD. And ten they need to make those Mr. Wizard DVD sets available again. I seem to remember there was one episode where he had a talking computer and he was eaching one of the girls about speech synthesizers and how they worked. That was pretty neat.

It may sound odd, but Ninja Turtles is actually a relatively new fandom for me.

My cousin, who's only a few months younger than me, was very big into it when we were little. I had a very slight curiosity about it when I got a little older, but never gave it much thought. Fastforward several years, and I'm now a huge fan of Lilo & Stitch, all the movies and the cartoon. One of my favorite characters from that franchise is Reuben, experiment 625, voiced by Rob Paulsen. I found out from a friend, who happens to be Lauren (FaithInGod4ever) that he had a podcast, and I happily subscribed. Imagine my surprise when I found out he played Raphael in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that my cousins and I grew up with! At around the same time my cousin who was fairly obsessed with the show was going through some drama, and so I was thinking about him a lot and remembering the good old days. Plus, it turned out that Lauren and my boyfriend had also been huge TMNT fans growing up! All these facts combined to renew my interest, and I went on youtube and google video to see what I could find. A couple of months later, and I'm probably the oldest new fan around! lol I've seen most of the 03 series, and the first 2 movies all on youtube. I'm not going to choose what version I like best; there are different things I like about both of them.

I always found it funny how Krang sometimes sounded like he was burping.

Post 152 by Kathy Fraggle (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 13-Dec-2011 18:43:31

Lol, never noticed. Ironically, I'm much more familiar with the 2003 version than the older one. Truth be told, I've only seen about the first 1 and a half seasons of the classic one.

Post 153 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Thursday, 15-Dec-2011 11:46:38

Yeah it was pretty funny, especially how whiny and petulant both Krang and Shredder could be. A far cry from Shredder's sinister portrayal in the movies and comics.

I started to reply, felt like I was taking over thread, so started a new one.

Post 156 by Kathy Fraggle (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 19-Dec-2011 11:44:26

It's not weird. I'm glad to know another fan!

Post 157 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Monday, 19-Dec-2011 22:06:08

The show I really enjoyed was that Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad. Then later came Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. Of course because of presumably low ratings they ended up ending the series on a cliffhanger.

Post 158 by Kathy Fraggle (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 19-Dec-2011 22:11:18

That stinks. I understand them having to end or abandon shows sometimes, but I wish they would at least make the effort to wrap them up suitably first.

Post 159 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Tuesday, 20-Dec-2011 23:39:31

Yeah, especially Mystic Knights. Because at the end of the last episode Queen Maeve of Temra was finally defeated by the Mystic Knights and so the people of Kells should have finally been free from her threat. But Maeve's old mentor Nemane was still out there and she'd allied herself with the same Dark Fairy Maeve had worked with, so they were right back where they started.

barney and friends seasons 1-3 were the best.

Post 161 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Thursday, 23-Feb-2012 14:13:28

Sorry, were you dropped? lol. Though I'm sure they were the better ones. Usually the original of any show is good and they go downhill so fast. Just that voice makes me shudder. No sir, you don't love me really do you? *runs and hides*

Post 162 by little foot (Zone BBS is my Life) on Thursday, 01-Mar-2012 6:53:24

My favorite shows that I use to watch when i was a kid was the telly tubbies barney don't remember the rest.

Flintstones, jetsons, land of the dinosaurs (anyone remember that one) few other old school shows I can't think of at the moment.

Post 164 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2012 11:14:16

Ah yes, the Jetsons. Jetsooon, yooooou're fiiiiired! LOL. As for Teletubbies I swear whoever came up with that one must have been on...something.

Post 165 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2012 18:19:34

don't get me started about those f-jerks! I'd traided those for barney at 4.
